Göta channelThe Göta channel crosses Schweden completely and has an incredible number of locks. Marked out by scotsman Thomas Telford and Baltasar von Platen in only 20 days, it took a whole 22 years (from 1810 til 1832) to build it. When the first railway line opened in 1870 the channel lost some of its importance. |
Consecutive locks near BergThe most prominent edifice of the channel probably are the Carl-Johan-locks which connect Lake Roxen to Berg. It takes 7 locks to overcome the 18.8 meters of altitude. |
